Each teacher received a “Canopy Connections Teacher Evaluation” form at the beginning of the fieldtrip. Teachers consistently reported that the facilitators were positive, enthusiastic, and adaptable. Teachers also complemented the program for being “hands on”. Zach Allen, teacher at Fern Ridge Montessori, said, “I am amazed with the spirit, passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm from all the presenters.” When asked about the overall experience students had at the site, he said, "This is the best kind of experience for kids. They'll remember this all their lives."
Canopy Connections Alums Gritz and Jake, now work for our community partner, Pacific Tree Climbing Institute. Their feedback is the following:
Gritz
What did the group do well?
Engaging students as a group, refocusing the group when students got off task, smoother during the last two days, Adam and Anne paid close attention to time, and the entire group did a good job of stopping at certain points in the tree.
What could we have done better?
Staying on time, keeping students focused on the activity, Introduction had a lack of energy, which made the maintaining energy through out the rest of the day difficult.
Jake
What did the group do well?
Adapted lesson plans and teaching well from the pilot to actual field trips, and after a few field trips the entire day got smoother.
What could we have done better?
More details in each lesson, include harder subject material, and focusing more on the river.
